Things you need to know before playing frisbee golf?

The Frisbee golf is a game derived from disc playing. The court in this game consists of two parallel and equal sized walls and it has a hole at the end, usually with some sort of target designating where your ball must land to be declared "in the basket."

Make sure you have these 10 essential tips down pat.

1. You can't go wrong with a putter, mid-range or a  driver

The three disc types are what is going to help you win the game. The putter should be used for your first attempt at getting into the basket, if it doesn't work out then your next shot will be taken by your mid-range. If this doesn't work then your last chance would be using a driver, which is mainly used for long shots but will help get the ball into the basket if no other disc type works. These are known as three-point shots

2. Never underestimate layups

It's always better to be safe than sorry when going for points so don't take out your big guns on lay-ups. Use a putter or a mid-range if you are close to the basket and don't want to risk it with your driver.

3. You have limited time so use it wisely

You have two minutes to get as many points as you can, which means that you better start running. Always throw so that the frisbee will land on a spot that you think your opponent can't get to, this way if they do retrieve it you might have time to run and throw again before the other team scores

4. Don't try too hard

Don't go for trick plays like overhand throws and swerves until you are more confident in your abilities.

5. Keep the discs dry

They can become slippery and if you are not careful you might end up losing some points instead of winning them with a missed shot. Also make sure that you keep track of all your discs since they could get damaged and then it'll be harder for you to get back into the game.

6. Practice makes perfect

You should never go into any competition without having practiced first, ever! You will be surprised if you haven't tried throwing a disc before because it is a lot harder than it looks and the results can be devastating.

7. Stay close to your discs

They don't do anyone any good sitting on the ground. Don't be afraid to run around the field looking for discs that you have dropped or need to return to the other team. If you don't, then they will most likely end up in your opponents basket and that's not what you want!

8. Watch out for people trying to distract you

There might be someone who is trying to throw you off your game, or at the very least distract you by talking to you while you are trying to concentrate on getting a point in. Don't let them do that!

9. Listen to your team mates' advice

They might be telling you about an opening behind one of your opponents, or showing you how better techniques can help you get a better shot. Listen to them and try in the best of your abilities to do what they ask of you.

10. Don't give up

If things don't go according to plan one day, just practice more until you master those shots or moves that need improving. Never be afraid to take outside help if it's needed. The more effort you put into mastering the sport, the better your game will get.

11. Read the wind

Since wind can affect how discs fly, it is a good idea to know where to throw your disc depending on which direction the wind is blowing. You want to throw so that it will have a slight curve and end up in the basket instead of having a tailwind carry your disc away from the basket.

12. Know how to throw

Different throws are good for different shots. If you want to get your opponent off balance then try a flick shot, but if you want to make sure that the disc will go straight into the basket then try a backhand throw instead.

13. Practice in different locations

It is important do things like this when you are playing frisbee golf because different areas will have different wind patterns, and that means you have to know how to judge the best time to throw each type of shot so that it will end up in the basket.

14. Know how to control your discs

You can't score a point if you lose control and drop your discs, especially the ones that you need to return to the other team. Practice frequently so that you can be on top of your game and have total control over your discs at all times.

15. Have fun!

This is something that everyone needs to remember since if they aren't enjoying themselves, no one else will either and it will seem like your winning is not really worth it. Go out there and make the most of your game time by enjoying yourself as well!

16. Drink plenty of water

It is very easy to forget that you need enough water when playing any sport for a long period of time, especially frisbee golf because the field can be quite big and there might be times when you have to run quite a distance without noticing it.

17. Stay alert

You never know what might happen when you are on the field so make sure that your mind is always on the frisbee and not elsewhere, because if something does come up you will need to be prepared. That can make all the difference in whether or not you win the game.

18. Avoid drinking alcohol before a game

It will most likely make you dehydrated and that is not good when playing any sport, especially frisbee golf because it is quite a tiring activity. If your body isn't in peak condition then how can you expect to play at your full potential? So remember this tip and you will avoid unnecessary occasions where you have to make unproductive trips to the bathroom!

19. Watch how the pros do it

There is nothing like role models in any activity, especially if they are people playing a sport that you want to play better than them because when watching them perform can give you more tips on how to improve your techniques.

20. Go out and play!

This is something that you need to do if you want to become better at the sport because there is no substitute for experience and playing as often as possible will let you gain a lot of it. Just remember these tips whenever you go out on the field.

There are many great frisbee golf tips out there but it is up to you to find the ones that will help you improve your game. Go find them and use them as much as possible!
